BrainMass.com is a homework help resource for academic students.  Since 2001, BrainMass have tutored hundreds of thousands of college and university students, one question at a time. Their website list several step-by-step solutions or students may request a personalized reply from an academic expert – which would be you.

What Will I be Doing at BrainMass.com?

At BrainMass, you will be a certified graduate-level tutor, also known as known as Online Teaching Assistants (OTA’s).

As a tutor or OTA, you will be responsible for providing step-by-step solutions to college and university students. You will receive training to make sure you excel in your position.

How Much Will I be Paid at BrainMass.com?

As a new OTA you will be paid 60% of the Credit value received by BrainMass for your first 10 responses. After 10 responses have been submitted, OTAs you will be paid 70% of the Credit value. The remaining funds are kept by BrainMass to cover its hosting and administrative costs.

Students are able to request custom responses to questions they may have. The cost to the college student is a standard fee of $3.99 CAD (Canadian Dollars) *that’s 4.11 USD (United States Dollar) as of 5/13/11* for every custom credit.

It will cost approximately 1 to 25 credits to purchase a Custom Post-A-Problem response, depending on how quickly they need a response and how difficult the question is to answer.

This is the cost the student will pay, not you.  You, in return, will be paid for providing the response to the question.

You should not have to pay anything out of your pocket for this position, unless you need something for you personal use while performing this job – such as a laptop.

After you have provided a solution to the question, the solution will then be added to the Solution Library.  Every time a student downloads your solution, you will be paid over and over again for that question.

The pay is different for the Solution Library.  It works similar to a royalty-like revenue.  You will be eligible to earn 25% of the revenue that BrainMass receives from your answer. I think that this is one of the best benefits of working for BrainMass.com – simply because your hard work pays off.   As an OTA, you  have taken time and  great care into providing BrainMass clients with a valuable answer and for that, they are willing to show you how much they appreciate your quality responses by paying you over and over for that same question.

How Often Do You Get Paid at BrainMass.com?

You will be paid on a monthly basis. Monthly earnings of $50 CAD ($51.80 USD) or more are paid on the 15th day of the following month.  Your pay will be sent to you via PayPal or cheque. If you have not accumulated $50 CAD($51.50 USD as 5/13/11), the amount you have earned  will  roll over until the $50 CAD ($51.50 USD) minimum is reached.

What are the Requirements to Become an OTA for BrainMass?

If you are interested in becoming an OTA for BrainMass, you must register as an Online TA. You must be currently working on, or have obtained, a graduate-level (Masters or PhD) degree from an accredited university.

They will accept Online TAs from ALL university departments of study, however, BrainMass does reserve the right to reject applicants in subject areas that already have enough members to serve their current demand. In cases such as this, BrainMass will hold on to the applicant’s registration form and contact them when they are able to accept new members.

You may have to show documentation of your academic credentials. Your credential MUST verify your enrollment or completion of a graduate-level degree.  You will need to send one of the following accepted forms of proof:

• A letter from your professor on faculty letterhead (signed with contact information)
• Scanned or photocopied version of your degrees
• Scanned or photocopied version of your transcripts
• Any other official and verifiable documentation

You do not need to send your original transcripts or degrees; photocopies and scanned images are acceptable. If required, you can fax all documentation to 001-905-967-1250 or send it by postal service to:

What I think about BrainMass?

BrainMass is an excellent opportunity for graduate-level students to build their resume and expand their intermediate work experience. If you are looking for a way to display proof that you have what it takes to work in your field, and you need a little extra money while doing so – then BrainMass is a great option.
